DNA and ECT Sign Major Cooperation Agreement

Munich, November 4, 2019 ECT (European Computer Telecoms AG), Europe’s leading communications software company for the realization of value-added services in next-generation networks, and DNA Plc, one of Finland’s leading telecommunications operators, have expanded their cooperation with a new multimillion contract for the next three years. DNA will now be using ECT’s Service Creation Environment[1] (SCE) to develop and enhance innovative services, responding as agilely as possible to customer requirements as they emerge.

Since 2014, DNA Vaihdepalvelu, the ECT-based premiere business service of DNA, has delivered innovative VPBX services to Finnish municipalities and enterprises. DNA also utilizes ECT technology for other services, e.g. number portability, service numbers, etc. All services are realized on ECT’s INtellECT© Telephony Application Server which – together with the INtellECT© MRF – is integrated into DNA’s VoLTE network as well as its test and development networks. Now, with the Service Creation Environment and ECT Dedicated Agile Development Squad, DNA can continually enhance existing tailored solutions for key customers as well as realize new business and consumer products. Features and services can be developed in extremely short agile sprints and be shown immediately to stakeholders, including customers.

“With the ECT cloud-based highly-scalable Virtual VPBX solution, we have been offering for several years custom-built services for all sizes of enterprises in the Finnish market,” says Janne Hankaankorpi, Director of Corporate Services at DNA Plc. “The Service Creation Environment and the ECT Dedicated Agile Development Squad will help us to further decrease lead times for developing solutions targeted to meet new customer demands while making the process more cost-efficient and reinforcing our position in the enterprise market.”

“The Finnish market is unique worldwide due to its unbeatable mobile penetration and usage of data. It is also unique in the demands businesses and municipalities place on technology for cloud VPBX, attendants, UCC and workstream collaboration,” explains Dr. Marshall E. Kavesh, Chief Executive Officer of ECT. “Global VPBX solutions designed to meet the lowest common feature set in North America just won’t fly in this market: Finnish customers expect a myriad of features not used elsewhere, quick responses to emerging requirements, and of course, continuous innovation. Furthermore, carriers like DNA don’t want to be reduced to a sales channel for some global product also available from competing CSPs. We at ECT understand this and are specialized in enabling carriers to launch and continually enhance services tailored for their unique market and their individual customers. Such services are both stickier and much more profitable for CSPs like DNA.”

The ECT Service Creation Environment (SCE) is based on a philosophy of rapid application development with near zero coding. Following the OneAPI initiative, it includes web-based tools that automate virtually all of the steps in the creation and deployment of new services and features. Any CSP with ECT’s TAS and SCE, such as DNA and Proximus, can also contract for an ECT Dedicated Agile Development Squad. The CSP can augment this Squad with its own and/or third-party developers. The Squad works in three-week agile sprints, producing the features and services as requested by the CSP and its customers. These can then be demonstrated and evaluated directly in the CSP’s development network.
